The relationship between a father and a daughter is special. I don’t think there is another word that more perfectly describes my relationship with my daddy.
My dad is a real-life hero. He retired from the army and served in the Saudi Arabia war. His mission to protect our country meant he was not able to physical be there with me for most of my childhood. But that didn’t change the fact that he was my daddy.
When he was at war he wrote me all the time.
Remember those days when people actually wrote letters and mailed them with a stamp?
That was a difficult time for me. I literally cried every time I heard “God Bless the U.S.A.” And of course, we sang it at school ALL the time because…we were proud to be Americans. Let’s just say I became close friends with the school counselor! (True Story!)
What helped me were those letters my daddy wrote me. In the red, white and blue envelopes. Me getting a letter was reassurance that he was still alive. That was all I had to hold on to. He made them extra special and always wrote “S.W.A.K.” on the envelope seal. Knowing my dad, I’m positive he actually kissed the envelope. I saved those letters. I still have them wrapped up in a gold tie. Of all the things my dad has given and bought me over the years, those letters are what I cherish the most.
Our story may not be picture perfect, but it’s ours. Through all the ups, downs, good times and not so good times…we are still here. He will forever be my daddy and I will forever be his “baby girl”.
Ok. Honestly, he calls me and both my sisters “baby girl”. I was first. End of story! (shoutout to my sisters lol)
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY DADDY!
