I am convinced that no matter what type of mom you are, its a struggle. I work outside the home and it is not easy. I’m 6 years in and I’m still trying to figure it out. How working moms balance it all. I’ve realized that you have to think outside the box to get everything done.
If you’re like me, you typically spend your lunch break at your desk…working. Most times, that’s necessary. However, there are other times when I use my lunch break to get things done. Here are four ways how working moms can find balance during lunch breaks.
Catch up with Friends
I mentioned in a previous post how I would have girl time with my friends during lunch. We made a commitment to each other to meet up for lunch more often. One time we all laughed so hard we cried real tears.
Have some me time
You have an hour, use it wisely! Get from behind the computer and take yourself out to eat. When I was younger I hated seeing people eat by themselves and vowed to never do it myself. I was young and dumb! Now? I have taken myself to lunch a few times. I put my earphones in and enjoy my time. However, it doesn’t always have to be about food. A pedicure and manicure can be done in an hour. A stroll through Target with a Starbucks in hand can be squeezed into an hour. Whatever makes you happy. Do it!
This one is all about time management. Weekends are coveted and naturally come with their own set of to-do’s. So, whenever I have the opportunity to knock out items on my list during the week, I do. Lunch breaks are the best time for this. Lunch breaks were when I bought school supplies. If you work close to home you can go do chores around the house. Get your grocery pick-up and take it home. The possibilities are endless. Whatever it takes to free up time in your weekend.
Work your side hustle
This is the one I plan on implementing in my routine. As I said before, weekends are rough and not nearly long enough. And weeknights are all about taking care of my kids and getting ready for the next day. To lighten the load a little I’m going to start incorporating personal work sessions during my lunch hour. However, let me be clear. If you do this you have to be very careful and intentional. Make sure you do the following:
- Make sure you are truly at lunch, off the clock. Only take care of personal business during “unpaid” time. To be safe, leave the property.
- Do not use any company provided materials to do your personal business. Bring your personal laptop if you need one to get work done.
And that’s how this working mom finds balance during lunch breaks. I hope you find these tips useful and implement them in your schedule. Let me know how it works out for you. And, what are some of your strategies to make the best use of your time?
