Whenever we don’t have plans our Friday night has two constants.  Pizza and movies!  How can it get any better than that?  Netflix has really been stepping their game up so there is always something to watch.  But, you can’t just sit down and watch a movie.  There are some essentials to having a great movie night.   Here is our family’s top five.

  1. Air popper

Duh!  What is a movie night without popcorn?  We got our first air popper a few years ago and haven’t gone back to microwave popcorn since!  And, it’s much cheaper might I add.  A bag of kernels is only a few bucks and lasts us a long time!  You can pop as little or as much as you want at a time.  So, you’re not wasting anything.  If you don’t have one I suggest you get one ASAP!

  1. Popcorn seasoning

This can be whatever you want it to be.  You can buy seasoning specifically made for popcorn.  The brand we buy is below. Or, you can use whatever you have in your kitchen.  One of my faves, old bay!  I also like to put a little (ok, may be a lot) of the oil shown below on first while it’s fresh and hot.  It gives it the movie popcorn feels and helps the seasoning to coat the popcorn evenly.

  1. Popcorn buckets

This is purely for authenticity.  Putting the homemade popcorn in a tub makes it just like the movie theater.  You can buy the 4 pack below or go to one of my favorite stores, Dollar Tree!  They always have the popcorn buckets in stock.  With two in a pack for a dollar, you can’t beat it!

  1. Candy

Again, Dollar Tree.  Enough said.  This is the best place to get candy for movie night.  They sell the movie theater box candy.  I guarantee everyone in your family will find something they love.

  1. Cozy blankets

There’s nothing like being wrapped up in a blanket while watching a good movie.  We are a blanket family!  We have way more than what we need.  No sharing needed, but it’s still fun and cute to do.

With our seasoned homemade popcorn in our popcorn tubs sitting on the couch curled up under our blanket, movie night can begin!
